Todd’s Story

Site created on August 4, 2020

First off, Welcome to Todd's Caring Bridge page. We want to thank you in advance for following along.

This journey began on July 17th. Todd came down with a very severe headache; the following Monday, he decided to get tested for COVID. The test came back negative on Tuesday. Wednesday, he was seen by a doctor who ran some tests and treated him for a suspected sinus infection. On Friday, he decided to call the doctor because his symptoms hadn't subsided and that same day was sent to St. Paul Radiology for an MRI of his brain and sinuses. The MRI came back all-clear. He returned home, but on Monday morning he called the doctor again and was then instructed to go to the E.R. There, he was given medication for a migraine and some IV fluids; they also did blood work. His hemoglobin was low so his blood was sent to pathology for further testing. On Tuesday, we received the devastating news that Todd has Leukemia. The next day, he saw a Hematology Oncologist who ordered a bone marrow biopsy at the U of M. Thursday morning he was admitted to the U of M and that afternoon received his bone marrow biopsy.

Todd has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). We are currently waiting for more results from his bone marrow biopsy to further direct the doctors in his treatment. Sunday, August 2nd, he began his regimen of chemotherapy and he will be hospitalized for the next 30 days. His treatment will be closely monitored and continue to be adjusted as further test results come in. Todd is 55 years old and overall in good health otherwise.

Today was day 4 of chemo and Todd has found it difficult to sleep. He received a third blood transfusion today due to low hemoglobin levels.  The past week, especially the last 3 days, have produced an incredible amount of new information to be processed. His wife, Anne, has been by his side every step of the way. She is the only visitor allowed at the hospital for the next 30 days, with visiting hours restricted to 8am-6:30pm. Todd has had a good attitude and is loved by all the hospital staff- no surprise there!

We're all taking this one day at a time and will be sure to update this page with new information as it is received.

In closing, with tear-filled eyes, we want to thank each and every person who has already taken the time to accompany us on this journey. All the messages sent, uplifting comments left on posts, cards received, meals delivered and most importantly, positive thoughts and prayers being sent to our family have not gone unnoticed. We are SO grateful, and BLESSED would be an understatement! Please continue to keep our dad, Todd, in your thoughts and prayers as he perseveres with his recovery. He is a strong, loving, sarcastic, sometimes funny, God-filled man who feels overwhelmingly loved and supported as do the rest of us. We certainly believe that God has a plan for everything and will continue to trust Him in all that we do.

With humble and appreciative hearts,

Newest Update

Journal entry by Anne Olund

It was one year ago today Todd received our son’s life saving bone marrow! His most recent biopsy showed he remains cancer free! Psalm 9:1 “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” This morning, as we gathered for a moment of prayer, we ask God to abundantly bless all of you, our Team Todd Family. We also took a moment to remember those who are currently suffering. We will humbly try to pay forward all the kindness and love you have shown us the past 21 months. Have a great weekend! And if you get a chance check out a song by Matthew West called “Walking Miracles”. It’s seemed fitting for today.
