Hello! Family & Friends

We’ve had a very emotional past few days.
On Tuesday about 5am we went to Rochester because Todd had an MR brain imaging exam and blood tests.  Then we needed to go back up on Wednesday morning to meet with Heather to go over the results.  When we got home Tuesday  evening,  we noticed there was a new appointment added with a Dr. Sener from neurooncology after the appointment with Heather,  That made for another sleepless night.
On Wednesday when we met with Heather she informed us his labs were good; however, there is a parenchymal hematoma (bleed) in the area of the brain where he had his last radiation treatment, that’s why she wanted Todd to meet with neurooncology, along with Dr. Breen his radiologist.  Heather also informed us they saw two more small cancer spots in his brain.   Heather said from a medical oncology standpoint, we cannot afford to wait for eligibility for the trials (right now) so she is prescribing him a different chemotherapy medication (TEMODAR) along with an anti-nausea medication (NEURONTIN).   Heather said she has also been consulting Dr. Burns a neurooncology surgeon for the best plan of care.  After meeting with Heather we had a joint meeting with Dr. Sener and Dr. Breen.  Todd passed all the neurological exams except he had slight shakiness during the finger to nose testing. Dr. Sener prescribed Todd a short course of gabapentin to help with headaches until the hematoma resolves.   Dr. Breen plans to radiate the other two spots as soon as possible but it all depends how the appointment goes on Thursday with Dr. Burns the surgeon.
Yesterday, we met with Dr. Burns and long story short: the surgeon feels strongly the bleeding is done, it should absorb and heal on its own.
Todd needs to keep a close eye on how he’s feeling and if anything changes.  Dr. Burns said he MUST take it easy, do not do anything that may cause straining, limit bending over and absolutely no heavy lifting.  Since Todd does not need surgery he got fitted for his new mask and Dr. Breen will radiate the two new spots next Wednesday.
