Todd’s Story

Site created on October 15, 2018

Hey everyone. Welcome to Todd's "Caring Bridge" site. We will share some details related to his health and current situation.

Please respect Todd's wishes throughout this process. We are keeping information about his declining health private for the time being. Please respect that and do not post anything on social media about his condition at this time.

Thank you for your support through this difficult time.

Health

Todd was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer early October.  He experienced severe abdominal discomfort that led to the initial emergency room visit. The attending physician suspected that the fluid secreted from the space around his pancreas (serous fluid) was cancerous and filling the space in his abdomen between his organs. After the fluid was drained, it was tested and confirmed to be cancerous.  After meeting with numerous physicians, we agreed to start chemotherapy.

The first (and only) chemo treatment was very difficult for Todd. His abdominal discomfort quickly worsened. Further testing revealed that his bowels are impacted and it's not allowing anything to pass through.  We later confirmed that the bowel obstruction is Peritoneal Carcinoma (more cancer). This unfortunate turn of events has changed Todd's treatment plan drastically. We have made the tough decision to stop chemotherapy and move him to hospice. We are focused on keeping him comfortable and managing his pain as much as possible. Todd checked into Pillars Hospice Care facility in Oakdale, MN on Sunday, October 14th.

Family

Family is welcome to visit and show their support. However,  please plan to limit the duration of your visit.  We all know Todd is larger than life, so you can imagine we have already had many friends and family visit to show and express their love and support. Todd loves to visit and see his friends and family, but this can be exhausting on him and his immediate family. Somedays we may have to limit visits, so please be respectful of these wishes.  The Pillars does have some big community spaces, so there is space here to visit if Todd needs more privacy.

Thank you and please feel free to ask further questions. We will post further updates here.

With Love,
Susan, Allison, and Austin
