Today’s Update:

Today’s update is a joyful one... and triumphant. One that Dad, our family, and his backers have been praying for over the course of Dad’s 16 day stint in the ICU at Bergan Mercy Hospital.

It brings happiness to our hearts and tears to our eyes to announce that Dad is finally home!!! This past Sunday while Mom was spending the day with Dad, all of us kids (older now but kids at heart) snuck over and helped load a recliner into the family room so Dad could be nice and comfortable and carried up the Christmas tree from the basement to lift his spirits upon his return.

Dad is continuing to recover from home. He was able to enjoy the fresh air yesterday for the first time in over 2 weeks. His hemoglobin levels are consistent in the 8.5 range while returning back to 100% blood thinners. The doctors reminded us that the human body doesn’t produce hemoglobin on a daily basis, so it will be a gradual process to increase those counts. With lower counts, Dad will feel a bit weak and tired until his numbers can get back in the ballpark of 12-13 grams per deciliter where they were before the accident. However, his internal injuries are healing properly and his pain level has been manageable. He will have an appointment next Wednesday to track his “at home” progress.

Now, our biggest challenge is keeping Dad in the starting blocks as he is chomping at the bit to get back to work and all the things he loves. Day by day he feels better and better. In due time...

What a time to count our blessings and reflect on all that we are thankful for this Holiday Season.

Among all those we are thankful for: all Dad’s colleagues, family, friends, and those whom we've built relationships with over the years who have kept him and our family in your daily thoughts and prayers. You would not believe the stack of cards Mom & Dad are currently going through that were on the kitchen table when he got home. All the calls and texts saying, “what do you need?”, or, “what can I do?”.  All of the comments and messages on social media. Thank you for your thoughts, your words of encouragement,  for your prayers, and for being "there". You don’t know how much your support means to our family and we can’t say thank you enough.

No news is good news from here on out. All prayers for Dad's continued recovery are welcomed and appreciated!  From our family to yours, we hope everyone has a safe and blessed Holiday Season and a very Merry Christmas.
