Tina’s Story

Site created on October 13, 2020

Updated "Story".   On New Year's Day, 2024 Tina got out of bed to go to the bathroom and fell.  She fractured her sacrum and after a short 7 hours in the ER was admitted to St Luke's Hospital in Duluth for 3 days.  Then on Thursday, January 4th she was transferred to Ecumen Lakeshore for rehab.  This will include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, pain management.  She is in room 149.

On Sunday, October 11th Tina fell in the back yard while Kathy was over visiting her mom, Marilyn, in Memory Care.  When Kathy was unable to reach Tina she contacted a friend, Marian, who went over to check and found Tina in the back yard and unable to move in a great deal of pain.  She was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth and was found to have broken 8 ribs in her chest.  As you can imagine, this is very painful.  At present the plan is to try and get her pain under control and then transfer to Ecumen Lakeshore for rehab.  Because Tina is so dear to so many, Kathy decided to make a site to keep folks updated so we do not miss anyone.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kathy Heltzer

I am hoping this will be your last update for awhile.  Yesterday morning I was all ready to go spring Tina out of Ecumen and then got a call saying she had fallen out of bed the night before and injured her left shoulder.  They wanted to x-ray it and then decide about discharge.  As I was still testing positive for Covid, I dispatched her son, Doug, over there to keep her company while they waited for the x-ray folks to appear.  The x-ray finally was completed in late afternoon but they did not think they would read the results until the next day and Tina was pretty much refusing to stay another night so I masked up and got her discharged.  They did call today and said no fracture but it is still very painful.  Homecare PT will start on Monday.  Tonight we had a birthday dinner ( see photos) and she enjoyed reading all the birthday cards!  Thanks again for sending the love our way.
