Newest Update

Journal entry by Jackie Shaw

Hello everyone. It’s been quite awhile since my last update so wanted to post on new information... recently tim visited the facial nerve clinic where they discussed facial reconstruction as some of the bones are broken still or displaced. This would be several complicated surgeries and not essential for function merely cosmetic.  At this time this is not something that interests him. They would like to address his eye by doing several months of facial therapy where they can focus on particular muscles groups in the face and work on strengthening them and see how he progresses. They were impressed
with the amount of movement he did have and believe the nerve damage in his face is due strictly to trauma and not related to the nerve damage in his brachial plexus which sometimes can affect the facial nerves.  In several months we will revisit how his healing has progressed with the eye surgeon and possibly discuss a small one hour surgery to lift the bottom eye lid to help him close the eye more thus protecting the eye better.  He has a conductive hearing loss and we will see an ear surgeon in the next few months to discuss the options regarding his hearing in his right ear. They believe something in the ear is blocking his hearing but the parts of the inner ear are all fine. His right arm will remain paralyzed due to his severed nerves. He wears a sling to support his arm and shoulder and a compression glove to help swelling. We will be seeing a dr soon about stem cell therapy to see if that is something that can benefit him. Our hopes are to maybe relieve some of the nerve pain associated with that injury. He will be also seeing the dr for his leg breaks and check their progress and will be fitted
for a brace for his knee to help provide support when needed. I am very happy to announce Tim is back to work part time and doing well!! As always thank you to each and everyone of you for your loving thoughts prayers and concern!!! My family and I are so blessed to have you in our corner and wish you and your family a great few months and will update with new information periodically.
