Timothy’s Story

Site created on June 20, 2022

To the Adair family, friends, fellow believers and those who hate sickness and disease,

Timothy started having weakness in his legs last week.  It got worse quickly, and he was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, GBS. This is a very rare condition and even more rare in children.

Timothy had a virus, as did several other family members, and his immune system did its job.  Unfortunately, it has mistaken his nerves as the virus.  The nerves are being attacked and this causes excruciating pain and paralysis.  He is currently paralyzed from the neck down.

We are believing in complete healing and restoration in Timothy's body!  We are trusting that our Father, who is the Great Physician, will heal Timothy's body and give him strength.   We are praying for wisdom for his doctors, nurses, Tim and Jody.

We are so thankful for all of the caring family, friends, and community that loves and supports the Adair family.

To Jesus be all praise, honor, and glory - now and forever!

Dear Friends,
I have been praying much over the right words to share with you all. Naturally, words don’t come easy to me...but the Lord Jesus is enough.
Charles Spurgeon wrote, “A believer can say, “If I should lose all I have, it is better that I should lose than have, if God so wills: the worst calamity is the wisest and the kindest thing that could befall to me if God ordains it.” Ouch!!! Can I say, “Yes Lord, to lose all I have (even a child) is better than to have?”
In those first days and especially in those darkest days, I could hear the Lord speaking to me soothing my heart with His comforting words. He used a song by Toby Mac ‘See the Light’ to comfort Timothy when his pain was unbearable. He comforted me with the song ‘Morning Light’ by Josh Garrels. The lyric went, “It’s going to be alright, turn around and let back in the light and joy will come...” I would then feel my stomach settle and my heart slow. I knew I could hold on to His sustaining grace and words of love. When Timothy’s body became paralyzed to his shoulders, I could hear Him say, “I have a mighty purpose, trust Me.” Pr. 3:5
When my prayers were not answered and Timothy’s lungs began to fail, I sat in the hospital room crying hopelessly…. God answered through a cleaning woman (a sister in Christ) by her encouraging me to keep the faith. The Holy Spirit moved and I had peace. Seeing my son put on a ventilator, flown in a helicopter, hooked up to many tubes and machines, I could hear my Lord say, “Do not fear, I am with you, do not anxiously look about, for I am you God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you and uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Is. 41:10 He is so good!
As days went by, Timothy would often struggle to breathe because of the pneumonia and his lungs being so congested. Our Lord Jesus would remind me to not fear and “Be still and know I am God.” Ps. 46:10 In those long days and nights of waiting for Timothy’s body to improve or start to move there would always be a perfect message from a loved one, a friend, or a stranger that would bring tears to my eyes and strength to my soul. Our Lord sustained us by your faithfulness to be His hands, feet, and mouthpiece.!
Your acts of kindness, love, and prayers that have been poured out on us are overwhelming! You all have loved us more than we could have imagined! The meals, groceries, gas cards, gift cards, child care, play dates, car rides, paying bills, donating in our name, the weeding and watering of our garden, gifts perfect for Timothy, desperately needed hospital visits, monetary gifts, pain lotions and oils, strangers sharing their GBS stories, fixing our golf cart, the prayer chains from all over the world, the prayer warriors, and those who even fasted for his healing have all been life giving to us. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Friday August 19th, Timothy had a follow up appointment at Mary Free Bed. He passed with flying colors, scouring a 5 out of 5 on almost everything with his strength. He has amazed all of his doctors and therapists with his quick recovery. Gillian Barre’ Syndrome is not something that most people recover quickly from, it often takes people months if not years to recover. Timothy still needs PT and Speech for a couple more months to work on balance, strengthening, and endurance. He is slowly gaining weight and is working on overall good health. Timothy can now ride his bike in our driveway, he can also run a mile, and wrestles with his little brother with much joy. He is loving the beach with his friends, driving the golf cart on the trails, reading in his favorite rocking chair, playing Minecraft on his Nintendo switch, and just being home with his family!
After running a mile this weekend, Timmy decided that he wants to give cross country a shot this year. He went to his first practice yesterday and worked so very hard! We were really surprised that he would want to try this this year, but he’s very determined. We are proud of his perseverance and willingness to face his weaknesses head on. With God’s grace Timmy has ascended out of the valley of the shadow of death and has begun to head to the mountain top!
Through this journey our Lord Jesus has taught us so much about surrendering our wills, trusting in His will, and shining His light even in the hardest of trials. The Lord reminds us in His Word, “That all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
In Christ’s Love,
The Adair family
