Timm’s Story

Site created on April 14, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As some you may know, Timm woke up early Friday (April 13th) morning feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms that he believed to be a panic attack.  Mara called 911 and when the EMTs arrived they offered him oxygen, as their assessment also lead them to believe he was having a panic attack. Within a few minutes, Timm became unconscious and the EMTs began chest compressions immediately. Timm was intubated and transported via ambulance to Fairview Southdale Hospital.

Upon arriving at Fairview, the emergency room team began giving him many doses of epinephrine to keep his heart going along with continued CPR. It was suspected at this time Timm had a blood clot and he was given  medicine to help dissolve the clot. He was then transferred to the U of M East Bank where doctors put him on ECMO - a form of heart and lung bypass. At the U of M it was confirmed that Timm had a large pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in his lungs).

As of this morning (Saturday, April 14th), Timm has continued on the ECMO and has not had any significant changes to his condition overnight. The doctor's main concerns at this time are not knowing how much oxygenated blood was able to get to his brain during the hour and forty-five minutes CPR was performed. He will be going for a perfusion CT scan this afternoon which will give more insight into the blood flow to his brain.

Mara, Kevin and Karen have been overwhelmed with the love and support shown to them at this time. Timm is at the U of M East Bank, unit 4E in room 4-501. There is limited space in the waiting areas and as such the family is requesting family and friends keep their visits brief at this time.

Pleas keep Timm and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Journal entry by Abby Meyer

Timm was a man of many plans - no dream was too big and no detail was too small to plan for. He dreamed of earning his doctorate in psychology. He did. He dreamed of starting his own therapy practice to help those in the community in which he lived and loved. He did. He dreamed of buying a commercial office building, gutting it and turning it into his ideal office while preserving as many original details as possible. He did. He dreamed of marrying his best friend and sharing his life with her. He did. Next on his list was renovating his basement (along with new siding for the house, landscaping the yard, redoing the kitchen and trying to figure out if his original hardwood floors throughout the main level could be salvaged and saved). Ever the HGTV fan, Timm had big plans for the basement and could not wait to turn it into a place for him and Mara to entertain their friends. He dreamed of giving Mara the closet she dreamed of - one without doors for her to leave open - and a master suite to call their own.

Unfortunately, Timm's dreams have been put on hold. If you know Timm, you may know he was particularly fond of a certain phrase, "FINISH IT!" In his honor, there has been a GoFund Me campaign started to help Mara finish Timm's dreams. If you would like to donate, please use the link below. If you are unable to donate, please consider helping others and passing along acts of kindness honor of Timm.
