Tim’s Story

Site created on November 26, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  Tim tested positive for COVID on Thursday,11/5.  On Thursday, 11/12 he was brought to the hospital and admitted to the ICU.  He had an extreme infection in his lungs due to COVID.  He was intubated, sedated and given paralytics.  He was in that state until Monday 11/23 with little to no improvement.  It was decided by his doctors that something more had to be done.  He was admitted into the UW Madison new program for COVID patients and was flown via flight for life to Madison to receive the new treatment.  He was put on a ECMO machine (basically like an artificial lung).  Tubes were inserted into his heart to take the blood out of his body to rid it of carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen.  With the pressure off of his lungs; it should allow them to heal better.

Tim's doing great everybody! Well except that he's extremely weak and I just found out today that he's lost 63 pounds and it seems to be most of it muscle.

He started physical therapy yesterday. Eventually he will be going to an inpatient facility in Neenah to do the most of his rehab, but the requirements before entering is that he has to endure 3 hours of physical therapy a day. Not necessarily all at one time but 3 hours total. It'll take him a while to get there. His legs and arms are so small and even his hands too. His shakiness seems to be better but still has trouble lifting small things like his phone and the remote. Can you imagine having a hard time holding onto your phone or remote? That's just crazy!!

Alex & I got to drop off some items and visit for 1 hour tonight. He was extremely tired, but they had his speaking cap on so we got to talk with him while we were there.

He's got a lot of work to do but he told us that he'll work his butt off to be at Alex's baseball practice and games this summer. I took pictures with Tim's phone  but for some reason they didn't all send to myself. Here's the 2 that did come thru. Shhhh, we weren't technically suppose to be there!! Lol
