Journal

Hello, everyone.

As today marks one year since the accident, we wanted to take a moment to update you on Dad’s recovery and the progress he has made.

Dad has maintained a rigorous therapy regimen consisting of physical, occupational and speech therapy. He usually has multiple sessions each week with therapists focusing on improving his gait and other skills that will give him more independence around the home. Dad is making progress despite Post Traumatic Amnesia blocking certain cognitive improvements.

Dad seems happiest being with family and friends listening to stories, singing along to music, and enjoying delicious meals. He loves a good joke as much as ever.

Aphasia, a condition which affects his speaking, is a problem for Dad and complicates our understanding of his level of orientation. It makes conversation difficult and it seems to frustrate him. However, as many know, Dad has always said a lot through his eyes and his smile, and thankfully these features are as expressive as ever.

Some days are better than others for Mom and Dad, but overall we are grateful for what they have accomplished together. We have many reasons to be believe that more progress will be made in the months ahead.

Thank you so much for all of the love and support shown to our family!

~ The Callis Family
