Tim’s Story

Site created on October 10, 2021

In late July of 2021, Tim started having shoulder pain on his right side, and MRI's revealed some herniated disks in his back and neck. The earliest time he could see a doctor was to be on November 3rd. On September 28th he lost vision and strength on his left side and went to OHSU where the wait was estimated to be more than 7 hours. They returned home and the next morning went to emergency where a MRI and CAT scan revealed a brain tumor. The ER doctor made a quick referral and Tim was sent to St. Vincent Hospital where surgery to remove the tumor was performed on September 30th. The tumor was not completely removed and Tim will need further radiation and chemo treatments once he is strong enough to go through it. Tim and Trish are thankful for Dr. Stone who recognized the brain tumor and made the referral to Dr. Gore, a top brain tumor specialist.

When Tim  checked in it was discovered that both Tim and Trish tested positive for COVID. Tim is asymptomatic, but Trish is experiencing the symptoms of cough and fatigue. She is quarantined at home and will appreciate your prayers. It is estimated that Tim will be moved to a COVID rehab facility through October 17th, the end of his 20 day COVID quarantine period.

Tim expresses his appreciation for everyone who has called, texted, emailed and has received hundreds of touches from friends and clients. But his capacity to respond is very limited, so please channel your well wishes through this site. Tim's real estate transactions are being handled by his colleagues at MORE Realty, for which Tim is very grateful.

He is also encouraging to the staff at St. Vincents while in his pain and discomfort, he reminds them that "they are good, kind, capable and compassionate." Tim says he wants each nurse to know they are loved and he has maintained his sense of humor even in the midst of his suffering.

Please pray for the miracle of Tim's full and complete recovery.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ron Frey

Today would have been Tim’s 63rd Birthday.

We celebrated his life yesterday in a service that honored God, our dear friend, Tim, and made room for both laughter and tears.

For those who could not attend or Zoom in, you missed a wonderful tribute from Trish, his sister Julie, his mom, Dee, myself, Chris Holgren, and the pastor of the church we attended in the 1970’s, Jerry Larson.

The memorial service was put on auto-transcription on zoom but alas, the quality of transcription is so poor, it cannot be made public. There is no video recording.

What’s next? Please continue in prayer for Trish, Nate, the Bolen Family and Tim’s kids. And please know that Trish and the entire family are deeply grateful for your faithful love and prayers.

I also want to thank so many people who took the time to thank me for writing the Caring Bridge posts.  It’s been my pleasure and honor to do this for Tim, and to take the load of communicating with so many people off of Trish.

The entire collection of posts and all comments is available on Amazon. You can order the paperback book by simply searching for the title: Caring Bridge for Timothy Rex Bolen, or search for my name, Ron Frey as the author. The book should come up and you will have the complete collection of posts through April 28, 2022.

As far as I can tell, this will be my last post on this Caring Bridge site. Unless something comes up and we need to reach this entire group, I’m going to sign off, and leave you with one final thought which was printed on the memorial program.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three: but the greatest of these is love.

I Corinthians 13:12-13.
