Newest Update

Journal entry by Thressa Sickerson

Here is an update on my journey.  As most of you already know my last chemo treatment #5 was on August 27, 2021.  I was so happy to hear him say this to me! However, the aftermath of this one was not good for me.  It turned out that this time around I was going to have to deal with a lot of fatigue that left me low in my spirits.  I am still dealing with this, but it gets better every day.  I will continue with what they call HER2 IV treatment until the end of May 2022.  There are still side effects to this but nothing like the Chemo side effects.  This makes me very happy!  The HER2 treatments are for positive breast cancer cells that make up the protein.  This helps to slow cancerous growth and stops it from spreading. Lord knows I do not want to go through this again!

I had an MRI a couple of weeks ago in preparation for my surgery and it shows that the tumor is GONE!!!  This is great news as it means the surgery will be less invasive.  I like this a lot since I have never had any surgeries in my life.

I am now scheduled for my Lumpectomy on October 6th.  The healing process for this surgery will be a trying time.  I will have to go through Physical Therapy on my right arm.  However, I have many loved ones to help me through it.  During the surgery, they will be removing some Sentinal Lymph nodes to test for microscopic cancer cells. My surgeon informed me that it will be unlikely that there will be any cancer cells found.   This was good news to hear from the surgeon! All I hear is I am going to have to work your ass off to get back to my aerial and pole classes.  I have worked hard to get where I was before this all started.  I am going to have to start over and pray that I can get back to this point.  Ok now I just want to cry again, but  I know my TGR family will be behind me cheering me on the whole way.

About 4-6 weeks after surgery, I will begin radiation therapy.  I am told that the side effect of fatigue will continue... great!?  I just really do not like anything to do with fatigue!  I know this is all temporary and I will get through it, but it is hard to remember this when as it lingers on and on for several months.

On a positive note, my hair is starting to grow back very slowly.    I got a couple of cute hats to wear for Fall instead of the beanies.  They really make me look sick.  We are almost halfway through this year-long journey.
