Tom is sleeping peacefully which he does a lot of these days. He is about the same from last post; perhaps a bit more time sleeping; less engagement, but then he'll surprise me. Last night I went to dinner at our friends house for the first time without him and I felt sad being with the other couples knowing I won't be having any more times with Tom socially as a couple. It also makes me grateful for all the couple times we have shared over so many years. What a blessing to have had such a wonderful, fun, adventurous, loving and loving partner for the majority of my adult life. Remembering that helps ease the sorrow in my heart withnessing his retreat from this life - our life.
We had a lovely visit with Claire and Chris - a lot of laughs and tears. Claire has been a major source of comfort and support for me and I cherish her love and presence in my life. And her connection and expression of love for her dad touches my heart deeply. I know it brings him great joy to see her smiling face and hear her laugh.
Our godsons, Ben and Carl - calling, visiting, helping and reminding me they are a car trip away if I need anything have also been such a comfort.
Our niece Sarah Wolfson made the trip for two nights to see her Uncle Tom and she and I had a lovely visit. Tom's dear friend, Rick Leslie and his wife also visited on their way to Maine. Vickie, Art, Mo, Julie, Janine, Bob - all the dear Cape Rep folks who were part of such a rich, happy time for Tom have been by. Dennis, Dick, Leslie, Cole our long time Wellfleet friends. My 4Cs colleagues and friends - Kate, Bill, Dee, Claudine, Sergio and my dean, Cathy and can't forget Cathy, our wonderful Moodle support -- all helping me stay somewhat in the loop and remember my love of teaching ; a place to feel normal for a little while. And our family - Joan, Sarah, Susannah, Josh, Nate, Bonnie and Kevin - all present and loving and supportive and available. Tom's brothers Nick and Gig have been so loving and supportive of their younger brother contributing to healing in the hearts of all three I think. Faithful dearest friends Melinda, Maureen, Topper, Lindsey, Chris and Gini, Peter & Dana, Dominic, Jeanice, Michael, MaryAnne, Perry, Bill. Again we are so blessed and grateful to be surrounded by such a web of connection, love, and support.
Please know you are all in our hearts and so deeply loved and appreciated for all you have given us on this journey. Words are inadequate to express how much we cherish your love and support.
Sending much love.
Tom and Michele
