Newest Update

Journal entry by Sheila Stinson

It’s been a while since our last update. All is going well.  Today we had another follow up with his hepatologist.  His blood work is all looking good.  His doctors are still trying to find a balance with his anti-rejection medication. Last week after his blood tests, they made a few changes. But this week, they are keeping everything the same.  They are also monitoring his incision. Some of his medicine can cause his incision to heal slower, so we are watching a few spots and starting wound care treatment if needed.

We have an appointment with a physical therapist tomorrow for some remaining neck and back pain. We suspect it is from the surgery and/or two weeks of hospital beds. It has improved since we’ve been home, but we hope to get some stretches or exercises to continue to help it.

It seems we’re still on track to be released to return back home the 4th week of May.  There’s still a lot that could change, but we’re planning on that unless we are told otherwise.

Thomas’s appetite has improved, most likely with the help of his steroids.  His newest addiction…baked ziti! Lots and lots of baked ziti. One of the nurses asked if I made my own recipe.  I can unabashedly say no, he is addicted to Michael Angelo’s frozen baked ziti. In fact, we have been to three grocery stores by our apartment to keep said frozen baked ziti in stock.

Thank you again to everyone that continues to reach out, send a card or care package, or send us or Thomas a text or call letting us know he is on your mind or in your prayers.  In between various doctor appointments, schoolwork, or work calls or video hearings, it has been nice for him to have new games or Legos or books or other fun stuff to entertainment him.  It’s tough for all of us being ripped out of our daily lives as we knew them a few weeks ago, but we’re trying to stay positive and appreciate the quiet of this time. Charlie is coming for a visit next week, so it will be great to have him with us for a bit!
