Thomas’s Story

Site created on June 6, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Thomas McDaniel.   Everybody that knows him loves him. We are overwhelmed with the amount of love and support that all of you have shown our family.  We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place regarding his recent medical event, instead of trying to reach out individually via phone calls, texts, social media messages or emails.  Please know that we are reading each one of them, but may not be able to respond.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Monday, 5/28, Thomas was admitted to the hospital for cellulitis in his leg. During this stay, the doctors also discovered issues with his kidneys.  He was released from the hospital on Monday, 6/4 because the cellulitis in his leg had improved.  On Tuesday, 6/5 he started feeling dehydrated and the next morning he had to return to the hospital via ambulance transport and has been admitted to the ICU, where his medical team is actively monitoring his kidney function.  There has been some internal bleeding that they believe to be caused by an ulcer.  The gastroenterologist will be doing a scope on Thursday, 6/7 to confirm whether or not an ulcer is present.  His vitals look good.  The two concerns are the kidneys and the ulcer.  Please pray for the doctors to find the route of the bleeding and for his kidneys to heal.

Many of you are also concerned about Vicki.  She had a tough time seeing Thomas hurting.  After he was stabilized in the ICU, she was able to express some of her feelings, which is the first time she has really been able to do so since the stroke.  Vicki is currently staying with her sister Betty Ann and will begin to split time with her, her oldest son Tommy and her daughter Sarah. Please pray for peace of mind and comfort for her as she is beside Thomas through this journey.

His family will continue to add journal entries to keep you updated on Thomas and Vicky.  Please check back for updates.

Thomas is starting to feel more like himself and continues to make improvements! The doctors feel he is moving in the right direction and have ordered him to move to a step-down room. Our family can not thank you all enough for prayers, messages, and your support!
