Journal

We wanted to write an update and ask for your prayers and support.

We are thankful on February 15th after a grueling 3 day trial, Mylik Hill was found guilty of attempted murder of Tommy, attempted murder of Tommy’s field training officer Dan Majors, 6 counts of resisting law enforcement, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The process was harrowing and horrible as Mylik Hill represented himself and tried to blame everyone else for his actions that night. Tommy especially suffered as he had to testify, rewatch his bodycam footage, and be cross examined by the man who shot him.

He suffered many sleepless nights and debilitating migraines during the week of trial and the weeks leading up to it.

Sentencing is set for Monday, March 11th. Tommy and I are preparing victim impact statements that we will read to the judge that day. Mylik Hill will also be present and able to make a statement.

Writing these statements has been incredibly difficult and grievous to us to write as we reflect and try to put into words the impact Mylik’s actions have had on our life. As you all know in following our journey, Tommy’s career, sleep, eating, drinking, laughing, talking, exercising, and every area of his life has been forever changed.

We have shed a lot of tears as we have remembered and acknowledged all we have lost.

Family, friends, and community members are also able to send in their own letters of impact- how this crime has affected you or how you have seen it affect Tommy or me or the community. We have heard that the judge reads them and they are very impactful to her- not only the content but also the volume of letters she receives as it shows the number of people who have been impacted.

First, we ask for your prayer as we prepare for Monday’s sentencing. We are very weary and overwhelmed. We feel the grief and pain have no end.

Secondly, if you would like to share your thoughts to the judge on how this has impacted you or us or the community or what sentencing you would like to request the judge to impose on Mylik Hill, please send a letter of impact to Amy.jacobson@indy.gov with the subject line to include Thomas Mangan. This can truly be only a paragraph.

The prosecutor submitted letters from family and some friends to the judge today for her to read this weekend. She will submit on Monday morning whatever other letters come in over this weekend.

We know this does not give you a lot of notice, but if you would like to join in by sending a letter please send them before the end of day Sunday, March 10th.

As we have reflected on the past two years of grief, you all have been bright lights of hope- encouraging our spirits and lifting our weary heads. We feel so loved by you and your prayers and support ♥️
