Newest Update

Journal entry by Stacy Kirkham

I apologize for not keeping this updated better. Thomas had his surgery on Nov. 11th and it was a lengthy one. He had a few complications during it but it went well. He did have to have a second procedure 5 days into his stay due to some of his flap incision skin dying. The debridement went well. He had several setbacks while there and his digestive system took longer to wake up than expected. He was there for 10days total.  We've been home for 4 days and life has become so much different for us all. Thomas requires round the clock care and with caregiver shortages it's all on me. I don't mind at all but I'm exhausted and unable to work. Our survival financially is solely in God's hands. He has a long road after this surgery. Learning how to recognize his urinary urges again, how to care for his ostomy, emptying drain tubes, cleaning and changing him several times a day and anything else he needs leaves my mind and soul overwhelmed. He's my everything so I'll dig deep to find any shred of energy for him. I just sometimes wish we had more people willing to step up and help even if for just an hour or two. We put our meal train up and so far no one has signed up. It's been kind of lonely for us since we went to Nashville and especially since we arrived back home. I don't know I just feel blessed in so many ways but forgotten in others. It's just so much... too much. The depression hits in waves and the anxiety is crippling some days.  Just continue to pray and I'll update again soon.
