Therese’s Story

Site created on February 28, 2022

Therese was diagnosed with a brain tumor in November of 2021. She went through extensive testing and imaging after some alarming episodes. She had surgery at Mercy in Sioux City on November 29th. They removed as much of the tumor as they could have without damaging surrounding brain tissue.  After she woke up, she was quickly cracking jokes and making us laugh in the ICU recovery room. She was discharged within two days and recovered at home.

On February 8th, 2022, she had a second surgery to remove a rapid regrowth of her tumor. We discovered her tumor grew back during an MRI in Sioux City, and quickly transferred care to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The surgery at Mayo went well. This tumor was bigger than the original tumor, and bigger than the doctors expected. They got as much as they could, which relieved pressure on her brain and eased some uncomfortable and painful symptoms she was experiencing.

Her current diagnosis is a stage four glioblastoma, but there are MGMT markers that indicate she is likely to respond well to chemotherapy and radiation. She starts treatment soon with so much love and support behind her!
