September 14, 2018~ Continued

Those life changing phone calls. I am not a fan. I immediately messaged my friend, Dr. Ben George, an oncologist I met on a mission trip in Guatemala. He was familiar with our family and our history. He made arrangements to receive Slate at Northern Colorado Medical Center that night. Slate's very good friends changed their plans and took him to Greeley. I booked a flight for the next morning, and prayed all night for the lab to be wrong.  Justin had already boarded a 15 hour flight from Mumbai.

September 15, 2018

Slate had a bone marrow biopsy, a spinal tap, and a main line put in today. His white cell count was 206,000, so they were extremely concerned with crashing his kidneys and liver when they started chemo. After discovering the type of leukemia was B-cell ALL, Dr George referred us the the group in Denver called the Blood Cancer Institute. I didn't know at that moment that it was actually Rocky Mountain Hematology Oncology, the same group we used for Hope's battle 10 years before. The thought of going back there made me physically ill. However, Dr. Ben assured us that they were the best.

That morning about 10:30, Justin landed at DIA. He was greeted with the horrendous news about Slate. He went directly to Greeley and arrived just in time as Slate was heading back for his biopsy. I was boarding a plane in Guatemala after dropping Max off with our good friends, the Brians. I am so grateful for the people God put in our lives before they fell apart. The Brians had moved to Guatemala that month before and did not have a sure ministry plan. We had asked them to join the House of Hope team less that a month before Slate was diagnosed. So God to provide for us before we even know what lies ahead.
