Matthew’s Story

Site created on February 11, 2020

Matt is one of the good guys.  A captain on the Savannah Fire Department and devoted husband and father, Matt has lived in the Savannah area for the past 25 years.  And yet, his Boston / Watertown roots are strong.  He still knows how to pahk his cahr like a true yankee.  Matt and his family recently received some surprising and unwelcome news, a diagnosis of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.   The outpouring of support from family, friends, and his fire family is AWESOME!  We are creating this site to keep everyone up-to-date about how he is doing and ways you can show your support.  Thanks for being a part of Matt's web of support --- and the web of support for his wife Jenny and their son Brennan (17) and their older son Hunter.

Journal entry by Tara Kelly

We will be honoring Matt and the contributions he made to our lives on June 13th.

Part 1:
11AM will be a graveside service at the Sandwich Town Cemetery.  It is difficult to say for certain how many people can attend (due to COVID).  So, we aren't expecting everyone to be there.  The Sandwich FD is planning to have a ladder truck on site to honor Matt.  If you'd like to join us, please be mindful of Social Distancing.

Part 2:
We will have a drop-in at Mom's house.  We are planning to have a tent in the yard and some food and drink.  12:30 - dinner time. Come when you can, stay for a bit.

What you can bring: a copy of a favorite photo of Matt and/or a favorite memory to add to the memory board.  You may want to bring a favorite chair for sitting in the yard and a favorite drink.  We welcome any desserts you'd like to share as well. Some of our family members need to be extra careful about COVID, so we will have some masks available.  Everyone plan on a dry day so we can spread around the yard. :-)

If you can RSVP, that will help us know how much food to order.  And, if you need directions, call or text Tara at 802-342-1713.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
