Terry ’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Terry's cancer began in July 2018.  His appendix ruptured and he underwent an appendectomy.  Pathology revealed his appendix was cancerous, and eventually he underwent a resection of a portion of his bowel with multiple cancerous lesions removed throughout his abdomen.  He was also treated with a type of intrasurgical chemotheraphy, called HIPEC.  Postoperatively, he had complications due to a bowel leak and eventual fistula.  Even through the complications, he was determined to be cancer-free.

Recently, he began having increasing pain and abdominal symptoms.  Further workup revealed possible colitis and/or infection.  Upon further testing, a PET scan revealed possible recurrence of his cancer.  Eventually biopsies were taken which confirmed this.

Terry's cancer is aggressive and does not respond well to chemotherapy.  However, surgery is not an option at this time.  It has been recommended that chemotherapy be started in the hopes that the cancer with not grow or possibly shrink, making surgery a possibility.
