Journal entry by Katie Robinson —
Good morning family and friends! Terri's surgery to insert the battery pack went as planned yesterday (he even washed her hair!). Since the battery pack had to be inserted under the muscle in her chest, she has been quite sore. This was an outpatient surgery, so she was able to sleep in their hotel instead of the hospital last night. She has a follow up nurse appointment this afternoon but will otherwise be resting until they head home tomorrow. The surgeon (who still thinks Terri is delightful!) was confident the headache would be mostly gone by Friday and all things should be "back to normal" in about a month. As of right now, rest and pain management are the focus. She will have sutures and staples removed in about a week. Then in the next few weeks, she will start learning about using the remote control for the electrodes and the charger for the battery. Once she learns how to use those elements, they will turn on the electrodes and she will benefit from the ability to control her tremors. Despite her discomfort now, she remains hopeful for the quality of life she will get back through this process. We continue to be grateful for the team at Stanford who have walked us through the process thus far. As of right now, prayer, thoughts, and encouragement are appreciated for pain management, rest, and healing. Thank you so much for your ongoing love and support!
