UPDATE ON MOM...
It’s a little over a month now and although surgery went “better” than we thought... she came out with some unexpected and unfortunate post-op news; her dominant arm has permanent nerve damage from being tucked during her 10-hour surgery, now that she is able to open her eye, her face is so swollen and heavy that it is pulling down and causing double vision. She also still cannot speak because she has a paralyzed vocal chord from the breathing tube they had in for her surgery 😥, so I don’t get to hear her speak often because it hurts. Those are circumstances that happened just from surgery. •
After her check-up a couple weeks ago, the doctor said they found the carcinoma in the lymph nodes they removed from her neck, so they need to do a full body ct scan to ensure it didn’t spread. During that CT, they did not find any cancer but they did find a few large blood clots in her lunges. So not she is on medication to hopefully dissolve those clots before they cause anything serious. CT scans will be done every 6 months, for the next 10 years. Since they found that carcinoma in her lymph nodes, they are having her not only do radiation (like we knew) but also will have chemo, orally. •
She has had SO many doctors appointments over the past couple weeks with plastic surgeons to reshape her face and also to get fitted for her Radiation mask. Today was her first day of radiation and she will continue everyday, for the next 6 weeks. “It was painful. The mask was too tight and caused my teeth to clench SO tightly and felt like my teeth were going to crack. They also said with this radiation being sooooo close to my eye, they are nervous it’ll affect my optical nerve and cause me to lose my vision. If that is the case, I will stop radiation but the doctors did say, if I don’t so finish radiation, they are 100% sure the cancer will come back.” 😥
So please please please keep her in your prayers! The past few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions and although everything may seem okay, it is so hard.. I just try to push everything down. •
Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers. Still a looooooong recovery and process ahead...
