Newest Update

Journal entry by Miranda Engelkamp

Well a lot has happened since I’ve posted.  I completed radiation! Wooo.  What an accomplishment.  With that I got severe burns and blisters.  Once I was healed I started having the same issues with my seroma (fluid) in my breast.  I was getting it drained in the office every 2-3 weeks since my mastectomy back in January.   My surgeon placed a small drain in at the end of may.  Hopefully thinking it would help and stop draining.   Unfortunately with that drain I got cellulitis which is an infection.  Very painful swollen hard and red.  So I had the small drain pulled out and got out on antibiotics.   The next step is to have surgery.  I will be having debridement of my breast and a large surgical drain placed on Wednesday, June 21st. :(
I finished my round of antibiotics last week and the next day my cellulitis was back.  I was feeling so ill the past 4 days.  I really thought I was dying.  I got placed on more antibiotics hoping to get me through Wednesday so I can have my surgery.
I really thought I would be done dealing with mess.  It’s been almost 6 months since my surgery.  I’m having severe pain in my breast and armpit.  It’s feels so full and lumpy.  It’s probably from all the infection in there.
I go tomorrow again for my herceptin infusion and maybe placed on my hormone blocker.
My emotions are still running high.  I’m worried sick that I’m still having to go this terrible disease with all the complications.  I’m so lucky to have my husband, my boys, my parents and family to support me through this.  I will post an update after surgery.  Hoping all goes well.
My family and I have a Florida trip planned in the middle of July for my goddaughters wedding. Please pray that I’m healed and can make it.
I really still need all your prayers to feel better and get through this.
Love you
