Journal

Since our last posts later in March, we have been busy with our girls and enjoying spring break and life in general. We have loved hearing from all of you who have been with us throughout this whole journey. We have (thankfully) had a bit of a lull but are gearing up for Steve’s next round of surgeries.

In 9 days (on May 7), Steve will have another long surgery of about 8-10 hours. This is to restore function to the right side of his face after losing the whole facial nerve as a result of the cancer. While surgery brings some level of anxiety, we are looking so forward to moving ahead with his recovery. We expect 1-2 nights in the hospital this time, after slicing in 5 areas  between his face, thigh, forearm and ankle. All to take different nerves and tissues and do a really complex but very cool surgery. Thank goodness he’s young and healthy, because this surgery wouldn’t be an option if he were older. After the surgery, we will wait for 9-12 months and see what outcomes he will have. But we hear great things about this surgical team doing this type of procedure, so are very excited for the months ahead.

Over the next few weeks, please hold our family in your thoughts and prayers (as I know you all still do for us). He will have about a 2 week recovery at home following surgery and limitations at work afterward for some period of time. More to come in about a week as we get him ready for this next big step.

We hope you all are enjoying the start of spring. Enjoy a picture of our whole family on our amazing spring break vacation, just a day or so after we got the great news about Steve being cancer free!
