Just as the Seattle weather turns beautiful, it’s time for us to leave.  It was a bitter sweet day for the Koonce girls.  Becca had her appointment with an electrophysiologist on Friday. The appointment was to discuss whether or not she needed a device to help her heart.  Her cardiologist, Dr. Minami, happened to be in her office at the time. She talked to Dr. Patton, and as a team, we decided to work with a cardiologist in Anchorage (Dr. Amos, who was responsible for getting us in at U-Dub) until July.  Dr. Amos will monitor her and order an echocardiogram in July. That will give Becca’s heart 3 solid months to get stronger. Peolple with a weak heart ( low ejection fraction) are at risk for arrhythmia, which can be life threatening.  At this time, Becca has not experienced any signs arrhythmia nor has her last MRI indicated symptoms that might lead to it.  However, the risk remains as long as her ejection fraction is at 34. Becca feels great.  It’s hard to believe what she’s been through.
Our next appointment was with the vascular nurses, Corinda the Great and her Amazing Sidekick, Alex. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about our good bye. Becca had an appointment with them 3 times a week.  They didn’t both need to be there after Alex was fully trained, but they both came regardless, just because....  Corinda and Alex made our appointments fun.  It was something to look forward to when we didn’t have a whole lot to look forward to - or anything at all. Corrinda used Becca’s leg to train others in the clinic on how to change out a wound vac packing and Becca became an expert herself, counseling them on what did and didn’t work.  They laughed when we came in with a broken vac held together with a bathrobe belt and oohed and ahhed when she came in with a shaved leg, ☺️ recognizing the effort it took. There are no words to explain how grateful we will always be and needless to say, there were tears all around when we left.
So, after 69 days in Seattle, we’re home.
