Rand’s Story

Site created on August 24, 2012

Dear friends, Welcome to Team Rand, a place to read about what's happening with Rand's cancer treatment and recovery. I know you're all rooting for Rand and want to get news, so let's try this blog site, which has been recommended by a number of people. Phone calls and emails are time consuming for everyone and I'm hoping this site will be helpful to all as a place to exchange info and messages.

I'll post more details about what's going on in later posts. Right now I wanted to say a big thanks to all for your good wishes; they mean a lot to both Rand and to me.

See the journal section to read the email we sent out last Friday when we got the diagnosis.

Dear friends,

The pathology reports finally came back and Rand has been diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). There are 9 types of AML and they've ruled out two types, APML and Hairy Cell. The 7 remaining types are treated with the same chemotherapy and that regimen is starting this afternoon. Rand’s molecular studies will be trickling in over the next few days and then we’ll know more about particulars, which of the 7 types he’s got, etc.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rebecca Batt

Dear Friends, As many of you are no doubt aware, it was two years ago this week that Rand floated away.

I wish I had words of wisdom or solace to share or, better yet, a message from the great beyond. I wish I could tell you that Rand came to me in a dream and told me something--probably something funny, right? But I hear  only silence.

So, I found a song. A song to commemorate the anniversary of Rand´s passing and to give all of us a moment of shared harmony and, I hope, comfort.

Fare you well, my honey, and fare all of you well, my friends. I love you.
