Mary’s Story

Site created on January 19, 2017

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  She has been in the hospital for 27 days.   We are working on getting her home soon. Mary first underwent treatment for medullablastoma  from October 2013 to June 2014.   She has endured several brain operations,  multiple rounds of radiation to her brain and spine and various chemotherapies that have sapped her strength and made her sick.   She is a pretty tough kid and continues to find energy to do the stuff she loves such as reading, knitting, arts and crafts, games, talking with friends, watching Modern Family and going to school.  She is now a 10th grader at Garfield High School.

Journal entry by Stacy McCann

Dear loving relatives and friends of Mary,

We can not believe it has been almost a year.   Time is meaningless without Mary.   It seems like forever since we hugged and kissed her last.      This time last July Mary was so sick in the hospital and we struggled to take care of her.   We are so grateful for Camp Goodtimes who took care of Becca and Raffi for a week last July during that catastrophic time.   This year they were welcomed back to the open arms of camp where they were among their people, people who sadly, have experienced the pain and grief of cancer.   There were a lot of tears but also a lot of crazy, wild fun.    And so many hugs.

Okay.  So now I would like to ask you to donate to Obliteride.   This is the Fred Hutch Cancer Research fundraiser.   James, Val and I are riding to fund ways to cure cancer and to find better treatments.  Please go to our fundraising page at: http://engage.fredhutch.org/site/TR/Obliteride/Obliteride?team_id=11500&pg=team&fr_id=1680.     Our team's name is Team Mary.
Thank you so much,
Love,
Stacy, James and Val
