Gabby’s update for 2/26/20
They took out the wire / rods, and she was able to go home, so far so good. Currently the biggest concerns are infection, they said she is very vulnerable for infection for the next 7-10 days as the sites closes, so she’s on antibiotics and we are being very cautious in what we expose her to. She has to protect her head, the skin will heal, but the skull they drilled through will take much longer to heal.
She is doing pretty well in the last day or two, minus some pain which is expected. We will be home for about 6-8 weeks to allow her head to heal, the surgical conference is tomorrow, and they will determine the date for her next surgery and land on the exact procedure, it is down to two. The one it appears she will be having is not FDA approved, we are praying the insurance company pays for it, she will be only 26th person the in world to have this procedure. The Mayo clinic is cutting edge.
She had some tough seizures yesterday, which is expected since they haven’t permanently place the stimulators into her head, so even though we have a end in site not much has changed in terms of her condition, even though there is light at the end of the tunnel, she was very frustrated after she had seizures.
We love and appreciate the prayers and support it means more to us than you know.
Here is a link that discusses the two possible procedures she is looking at.
