Journal entry by Caroline Carroll —
It's been a great week at home so far. Colin is so much happier here and is doing really well. He eats quite a bit and hasn't had any issues passing things through 😉 He has however, been belching a lot so we will be calling to make sure that is nothing to be concerned over. His stomach looks really good and his scars are healing. All of the reminders of tape and IVs are also fading away each day.
We were able to get in right away this coming Monday for his OT/PT consult here in Otsego. We are looking forward to getting his strength back so he is safe to go back to preschool and back to his normal routine here at home. He can't dress himself or do bathroom stuff without help and also is not ready for the stairs. We are all helping him work on getting up and down from chairs or the couch and on/off the bed. Things he could do so easily are now just going to be a bit longer before we don't worry about a fall. The PT will also help with things that we weren't even addressing before this hospital stay. Since he has a chest pectus there are exercises we can work on to build up his muscle tone and obviously we need to fatten this little guy up.
He has been spoiled rotten by everyone of you and it truly has helped him get over some of the trauma of being in the hospital. We've noticed some anxiety but as each day goes it's getting better. Who can blame the kiddo when you have all kinds of strangers coming to see you and then poke your tummy or take your vitals. Whoever sent the cool finger rockets. Thank you. It actually is a great tool to help with his therapy. Plus they are a ton of fun to shoot at each other. 😊
He has definitely gotten his charm back and has Lauren, Emily and Camille wrapped around his fingers. It seriously is just so heart filling to listen to them giggle and play or even get on each other nerves. Because yes Colin does that also.
We are slowly getting back into a routine with the family. Colin will be out and about with us as we go to soccer, dance or just to target for groceries. He's not broken so please don't feel like you have to stay away. I mean if you have the flu or are sick then its fine to keep your germs 😂 but we want things to feel like normal also.
All in all it is fantastic to be home. It is such a blessing that we have such amazing people in our lives who continue to send meals and cards and everything else. You are blessing our family so much and are helping us all to mend and grow back together. ❤️
