Taylar’s Story

Site created on October 3, 2023

Welcome to Taylar’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Taylar’s story is in the first post. She was recently diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation. We will be having the Chiari decompression surgery on October 11th, 2023. She will be monitored for inter-cranial pressure for a few days after the surgery to make sure this is the only thing to be concerned about or to mediate. Her optic nerves are being tested and monitored as well as this is how we came to find her diagnosis. Any questions let us know. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Amanda Kiefer

We had Taylar’s check in with her Neuro surgeon today. I cannot say enough about how amazing he is! You can barely find her incision area and her hair is growing back so good!!
She has had a spine MRI a Brain MRI and her eye tests in the last few days.
Her brain is showing very good decompression! I tried to point it out in the pictures the best I could.
She still has a cyst in her spinal cord, we asked if that is still a concern and Dr Ahn said it most likely will not go away completely but the size is definitely less than it was before and that’s so good. We will be monitoring that though to be sure.
Repeat MRI in October and a visit with Dr Ahn again.
Tay has been having eye pain and headaches and we were a bit worried the pressure was coming back up. Good news that no swelling/pressure increase and the her optic nerves look good. Rechecks on eyes in 6months.
We will be checking in with ENT on a mucus cyst that was seen on the MRI and see if the sinuses could be a cause of headaches and eye pain.
Best news for Tay is that she is released to go back to dance!!!
Hopefully this chapter of health stuff for her is closed (with monitoring of course).
We cannot THANK YOU ALL enough. The support that our friends, family and community gave has been amazing. Blessings and love to you all!
