Tate’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2022

Tate was diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia (HCL), a rare type of white blood cell cancer, in June 2022.

When healthy, B cells inside our bodies are responsible for creating antibodies for us, but the cancer is telling Tate's body to generate abnormal B cells so his bone marrow is creating too many defective cells leading to a deficiency of normal red and white blood cells and platelets and making it difficult to fight infections like they're supposed to.

He was given an intense treatment plan to fight this disease immediately. Unfortunately, with this being a blood cancer, not only did the disease affect his immunity but so did the treatment.

His oncologist put him on a prophylactic course of antibiotics, but he ended up with a bacterial infection which put him in the hospital. His medical team fought the infection amongst the other side effects his body was enduring, one including growing respiratory failure. In order for Tate to receive the care he needed, he was transported to the University of Minnesota Medical Center where he is currently on life support to allow his body to rest and fight the way it needs to.

He truly is getting immaculate care where he is and I have grown a great relationship with his medical team. I'm not going to deny that his condition is critical and the recovery will be extensive.

Your continuous thoughts and prayers are going to be crucial throughout my husband's fight. I know with my whole being that he can hear and feel them. Not only Tate can hear them but his whole family can as well.

I promise to keep this page updated on a nightly basis to ease your thoughts and hopefully give you all the comfort that you need. Myself, his amazing children, and family appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and generosity more than we can express in words. As you can imagine our hearts, mind and bodies are constantly processing this quick and sudden turn of events with his health.

Tate is one of the strongest and most stubborn man I know with a heart that is unmatched. He will continue to fight alongside all of us so he can continue to live out the dreams and plans that we have created together.
