Tanya’s Story

Site created on February 17, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Tanya and Kevin were out snowmobiling on Friday, February 12th. On their way home, Tanya was having difficulty seeing out of her face shield. As a result, Tanya went off the trail into a drainage ditch in a sod field, crashing into the side of the ditch which ejected her from the machine.  Tanya was airlifted to HCMC where she continues to fight through her injuries. Thankfully Tanya will make a full recovery however her injuries are extensive.  She does have a Traumatic Brain Injury as well as respiratory failure due to lung contusions along with several facial fractures that will be surgically repaired and a broken vertebrae in her back. Tanya's feisty self is evident as she continues to heal from this unfortunate accident.

Kevin, Tanya, William and Olivia appreciate all of your support!

Update from Rachelle:

Hello friends and family!

Tanya has been home for a week and a half now!  While she is doing remarkably well, she continues to have a slow, but steady recovery.

Tanya is finally free of all tubes coming and going from her body!  She has completed treatment for C-Diff, which has also seemed to resolve (knock on wood).  She is easily fatigued from doing even the smallest of tasks, such as talking on the phone or needing to concentrate for any amount of time.  Of course, Tanya and Kevin have been busy will multiple follow up appointments all week, which is also contributing to her exhaustion.

Sadly, her headaches are not improving and if anything, they have become worse over the last few days.  It is unclear as to what is causing the headaches at this point, as it could be related to the facial trauma that went unrepaired, or from the brain injury she sustained.  Tanya is hoping to get a second opinion re her facial fractures in the near future.

All in all, things are most certainly looking up and the Griffin household is starting to settle into a more "normal" life again.  Tanya is so grateful and also overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support you have all given to her and her family.
