Tanner’s Story

Site created on January 13, 2022

Tanner was diagnosed with Embryonal Carcinoma on Tuesday, January 11.  This started when he noticed a lump at the base of his neck the previous Friday.  After a few doctor appointments and scans, he was admitted into Children's Hospital Minneapolis Saturday evening.  The doctors were initially leaning towards Lymphoma, but after the biopsy, we found out it was a germ cell tumor.

Tanner has always been very healthy and active.  Even leading up to identifying the lump, he had no other signs of what was brewing from within.

Tanner is a hard worker and very driven.  I know he is going to tackle this head-on and then will continue his dream of playing college football.  He is currently a junior at Spectrum High School in Elk River, MN.

His parents, Jane and Scott, will be providing updates to this site.  If you want to hear from Tanner himself, follow him on Twitter at @TannerGangl.

Journal entry by Scott Gangl

It has been year since Tanner finished up with his chemotherapy and we just had his follow up. I am overwhelmed with joy to announce he is still cancer free! Today is also another milestone for him as he graduates from Spectrum. The journey that this young man has been on is hard to put in words.  We want to thank you all for the prayers, guidance, love, and support that have helped him beat this. His mother and I look forward to seeing him walk the isle tonight.  If you look close you might see a tear or two coming down our faces.

Thank you all so much for making Tanner the man he is.
