Tammy’s Story

Site created on April 14, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Tammy fell from a ladder Monday morning, April 10th. She fell 15 feet and landed on her back. One of her lungs collapsed and she sustained severe back and spine injuries. T10,11,12 and L1 and L2 were all affected. Some vertebrae burst and some
shattered cutting into her spinal cord. During spinal surgery, four rods and eight
screws were put into her spine. A port was put into her chest to assist the collapsed
lung however that tube was just removed today, Friday. She can wiggle toes on both
feet which is an encouraging sign. She is able to move her right leg slightly however
her left leg is falling behind and does not want to move. Managing her severe pain
has been a balancing act with the heavy hitter narcotics.
Next Steps:
Tammy will live at an in-patient rehab and physical therapy center at University of
Michigan for about three weeks. We are praying that with time and physical therapy Tammy will regain the ability to sit, stand and walk again.
We are incredibly grateful for your prayers and kind messages.

A message from mom:🤍🤍

There has been amazing progress from a mobility standpoint. July 3rd, I was able to put weight on my right leg for the first time( the broken one). That was a game changer. My PT had me try walking that very day with a Walker and I have been getting better at it each day. I can now get myself upstairs by going backwards on my bottom pushing myself up each step. That means I can shower at home and sleep in a real bed which I do from time to time. I am very grateful to God for His powerful and compassionate hand in my healing and to you all for your prayers, love, and encouragement. I could still use prayers for healing from all the nerve damage. My feet always feel numb and tingling and my mid back down to my gluts feels strange as well. Thank you and love you all.
