Journal

Alright everyone. Time for an update. I guess I’ll do the good news first. My mom’s surgery on Wednesday went very well. Basically what they did is go in through the back of her neck and put in metal plates, bars, screws, etc, to support her neck so she will be able to sit upright. By supporting her neck, those metal bars have also taken away or at least extremely diminished her pain from the neck brake, so that’s good. With this surgery they were able to take her neck brace off. She seems much more comfortable now that all this has happened and has been sleeping non stop, which just solidified my assumption in the she is more comfortable. My brother Robbie is flying in tonight from Italy and will be staying here to help the family and support my mom. We are all very excited to see him.

Now for the bad news. The injury has paralyzed her from the neck down. She has no use of her arms or her legs, her diaphragm is also paralyzed so she cannot breath or talk on her own. She still has the intubation in her throat and she hates that damn thing but it’s keeping her alive. The good thing is at this point she won’t get any worse, unless she gets any infections, but she also won’t be getting any better. The paralysis is here to stay.

On the note, we are hopeful and are looking into any experimental treatments all over the world. The nurses have talked about getting the intubation out and inserting a tracheotomy through the neck. We are very excited for this cause Mom keeps trying to push the stupid tube out and chewing past the bite guard and like I said it’s the only thing keeping her alive.

As always, we are thankful for your prayers and your love, and are taking this day by day. Next update coming soon.
