Welcome to Susi's CaringBridge website. I am using this to keep family and friends updated in one place as it is difficult to repeat the story over and over. I totally appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement .  Thank you for visiting and please feel free to share with people I may have missed or that you feel would want to know.  💗

Newest Update

Journal entry by Susi Schuele

I started to write this a few days ago but got distracted and then lost what I was writing.😝

The latest updates:

The Oncotype DX test came back with excellent numbers and I DO NOT need chemo! There is only a 3% chance that the cancer could return and I'll take that 97% chance that it won't!

In order for those numbers to be accurate, however, I did need partial breast radiation. I just finished the 5 treatments this past Friday.  Now I will heal and recover for several weeks and meet again with the oncologist on May 15 to discuss what pill they want me to take. I will be on something (at least from what was previously indicated) for 5 years. I'll also have regular visits over 10 years but they will taper off as the years go by.

Radiation was simple but had its moments. Some days I felt like I was hit by a truck and some days I wasn't so bad. I bet I could do pull ups now since I've been trained to have my arms over my head for 20 minutes. 😂

I've had a few side effects and some pain but mostly I am EXTREMELY grateful that I only had 5 treatments. I just don't know how women do it for 30 days, every day. I have been having up and down days since the radiation. The first couple of days were great and now it seems like I may have hit a bit of a wall - which I guess is to be expected. These side effects could linger over the next few weeks or months so I'll just take them as they come and try to make the best of it.

I could always use thoughts, prayers, texts and hugs (left side only please), so please keep them coming. I appreciate them more than you know! I really want to get back to "normal" as soon as possible and get out there and do the things I love to do. I am very blessed that this is almost over. One day at a time.

Hugs,
Susi
