Newest Update

Journal entry by Allison Blankenship

These past few months have been good.  Mom was able to go places, see Krew and Kaiden play football and cheer, and they even made it to the beach house (their happy place).  For the first time in many years both mine and Michael’s families were in 96 for Christmas Day!  With the good there were also some days of staying in bed, pelvis hurting, and a lot of ER visits.
Mom’s 100th day was December 9th.  On that day her labs had come back from testing on the 4th, and there was no active cancer showing up.  We all cried happy tears, because she survived the stem cell transplant and was doing well.  Fast forward to the last three weeks…
Pain in her jaw led us to an MRI , which showed a tumor behind the jaw bone.  We were planning a biopsy for 2/13; but we moved up when lesions/tumors started showing up on her head.  The biopsy was done this past Wednesday, and the reports were not what we wanted to hear.
Today…..
We had a discussion with mom’s oncologist, and the answer to our question was “ Mr. Morris, the cancer is very aggressive, and I have consulted with other doctors and there is no treatment that will help Susan,”. That was hard to hear, but kind of in the back of our minds.  At 12:00 today mom went under hospice care.  We have been told that we have days with mom.  She is comfortable, and has been able to sit up and visit with us.  All the grandchildren are here and we are saying our goodbyes.
I have never been more honored for people to tell me, that I remind them of her!  She is a wonderful mom, SuSu, Aunt, Sister, Sister-n-law, and best of all, she and dad are always examples of what love and a marriage should look like!  53 and a half years of marriage is no small accomplishment!
Please continue to keep us in your prayers.  For mom, that there will be no pain, for us we are losing our mom, our rock and best friend.  For my dad, pray for peace that he has honored her wishes; and that he and mom did everything in their power to be the best of the best for our families.
I have attached some recent pictures of our last few months with Mom and Dad.

Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, visits, meals, and your unconditional love for our mom and dad.

I will continue to update, as things change.
