Just 65 days short of two years. What number is that you ask? How long this cancer journey has taken so far. This December will mark two years from the original diagnosis. For me day 665 in the process was an important day. It is the first day I have truly felt done.
The day began with dePORTation. I finally got my port out!!!! The surgery was simple, the nurses kind and the doctor quite competent. The whole process is a little gross to describe so I won't go into details. It feels fabulous to have it out. I am bruised and sore, but will be back to normal within a week.
The afternoon brought a visit with my radiation oncologist. Dr. Borofsky oversaw the radiation portion of my treatment. This one year followup brought only good news. My skin has minimal darkening. The tissue has not formed much scar tissue, nor tightened (which would have made moving my arm very difficult). The best part of the visit: I am officially discharged from seeing my radiation doctor. No more appointments or scans or check-ins ever. (I will continue with my surgeon and oncologist for some time.)
So HOORAY and PRAISE GOD!!!! What a great milestone to reach. Eliminating the port brought a huge measure of mental closure for my breast cancer treatment.
Thank you all for caring, loving, praying and sharing life with me and my family.
Blessings and Happy Pinktober
Susan
