Scott’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Tuesday, July 25th Scott had a Massive Heart Attack and was rushed to United Hospital via ambulance.  He was brought directly to the ICU where they began to run some tests.  They confirmed he was currently having a heart attack and had a 2.9 cm blood clot in his lower left ventricle.  They decided to bring him to the Cath Lab to put a stent in.  In the process of that procedure, he went into cardiac arrest where the doctors had a hard time getting his heart to pump correctly with electrical shocks and ended up getting him stable with CPR.  After the stent was placed, the doctors stated that he was currently experiencing cardiac failure, respiratory failure and was considered critically ill.  He was placed on a breathing tube, a balloon pump and 3 blood pressure medications to keep him stable.  The last few days have been long but we are taking the little wins when we can get them.  Overall, Scotts progress has only increased and has not decreased.  Our first goal was to get him off of the 3 blood pressure medications.  After 2 days they were able to get him down to only one.  They have also been able to decrease his oxygen levels.  He started on 70% (meaning he was breathing 30% on his own, with 70% assistance from the breathing machine) and now has been dropped to 40%.  His cardiac output has been slowly increasing, which is good.  We are wanting that number to jump up more so eventually we can start weaning him off the balloon pump.  They have lowered his sedation completely, so he is more responsive to us and opening his eyes when we ask him to!  There is a possibility that he may have had a stroke through all of this, but his heart is #1 priority right now and the fact that he is physically responding to stimuli is a positive sign his brain is in a good spot.

He has been loved on by so many friends and family members throughout the last few days!  We appreciate the continuous prayers and thoughtful gestures during this time.  The doctors told us that Scott needed to put is rally cap on, and we all know he is up for the challenge!
