Kelly’s Story

Site created on August 19, 2018

Welcome to our Support for Kelly CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Kelly was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Friday, August 17th.  Monday the 20th of August she was admitted to NYU Medical Center and subsequently underwent surgery to remove the tumor. The surgeons were very pleased with the outcome, and she is now facing a long-term treatment plan that includes chemo and radiation. This site will be updated with information as often as possible. We hope it serves as a hub for all of us to get and share information, and discover ways that we can help Kelly and her beautiful family -- her husband Terry and small children 3 year-old Azalea and 1 year-old Jules.

We respectfully ask that everyone refrain from contacting Kelly directly, especially with lots of questions and especially on Facebook. This is very overwhelming, and we just need to give her space to heal. Once we have information that Kelly and her family are ok with sharing, we will update right away.

Dear friends,

Kelly has come through such a dark time, and is facing her stage 4 brain cancer with renewed courage, and light, and positivity. Your messages of love and support truly make a huge difference and she adores them. She has completed one full round of radiation treatment (which was a horrific and anxiety-ridden experience), and is continuing her chemo every day. She is trying to get out in the fresh air for walks when she can, visits to her favorite stationary shop (she still loves getting cards for her loved ones, even when it is challenging for her to read and write!) or to take Jules out in his toy car, or go pick up Azalea from pre-school. Kelly and Terry and the kids have incredible and loving help from her adoring family, sisters, mom, and friends with things like laundry, meal prep, errands, and household chores. Kelly is practicing meditation, is listening to books and loves hearing inspiring quotes and passages from Thich Nhat Hahn, Pema Chodron, and many others. She remains silly, hilarious, loving, nurturing, and full of empathy and care even during this insane time.

Kelly and Terry are facing unbelievably daunting medical bills, with no end in sight. This is a marathon, not a sprint. This time of year, with the holidays upon us, I know can be a challenging time for all of us, but for Kelly and Terry and their beautiful children, it is magnified a millionfold. I hope you can send a gift on the GoFundMe page of any amount possible to them to help them with the exorbitant medical bills and mortgage and childcare expenses that are mounting every day (click above on the "Ways to Help" tab). Terry has expressed his deepest gratitude for the generosity of so many, and so many people he doesn't even know!! It's so moving to hear him express what it means to him.

Kelly has a very difficult and expensive and scary fight ahead of her, but she is ready to do it with her familiar humor, and a defiant aplomb. We are all in this with her; standing with her, and generously giving what we can to help their beautiful family.

Terry receives every penny directly to help him with Kelly's medical bills, the children's care, and the mortgage payments. Thank you dearly for your love and generosity.
