We have all returned home from my mom’s second service and internment in Lamesa, Texas. It was an amazing family gathering with her great-aunt, her 8 cousins, grandchildren, and10 cousins from my generation. There was a large table full of people from her high school class at lunch, and a couple of people from my dad’s high school class came over from Ralls, Tx. Emerson sang Over the Rainbow at the Graveside service and Sela sang 10,000 Miles in the church service. Sam Lanham, the minister in Lamesa, did a beautiful job.

My cousin Ryan and his sisters Sarah and Amy gave us all the gift of Chihuahuas for lunch after the service. These are a family tradition—2 crispy corn tortillas, pimento cheese on one side, meat chilli on the other with a handful of cabbage and onions in the middle. They were sold at the Sky Vue drive-in in Lamesa for most of my life until it closed a few years ago. I love them and so did my mom.

Randall did a bunch of work and helped make a video tribute that makes me feel so happy when I watch it. My mom and dad had the most amazing life full of joy and laughter. My dad left for his road trip yesterday. He is going to see some sights in Texas. I’m tracking him ( his phone) and he spent last night near Big Bend National Park in Alpine, Texas. I think he had Sonic for dinner. I hope he takes some pictures.

I’ll try to keep you updated here on his progress. I’m like an anxious hen. I’m both super excited and worried. He sounded good when we talked yesterday.
