Journal

Today is almost two weeks after our discharge from Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. Thank you to each of you who have messaged or asked in person about how things have been going. It has been challenging to find the time to write an update, so I am sorry for the delay.

To respond to a couple of common questions we have received.

1) So... did Summit have cancer? I think the reason for this confusion exists because of my own confusion when we initially were presented with diagnoses. The answer is YES. Summit was diagnosed with a Wilm's tumor which is the common form of kidney cancer in children. Due to the fact that his cancer was contained to the kidney and therefore removed with his surgery, he will not need further treatment, e.g. chemo.

2) When are your next appointments? We will hear from the oncology team when the imaging appointments will be scheduled (chest x-ray and ultrasound to ensure that the cancer has not returned) by the end of the month. Our follow-up appointments for the surgery team and renal team are on November 7th.

We have been busy returning to our normal routines. I (Morelle) finished my first full week back to work. Summit was very fussy the first few days after our return home, requiring constant attention, but has developed into a very happy baby! We are so excited to see his personality develop unhindered by an abdominal mass. He has only had two doses of Tylenol since being discharged. Praise the Lord!

Prayer request:
- Please pray for Summit to sleep better through the night. His nighttime routine is confused which results in him waking up multiple times. This makes it hard for us to function (and return to our responsibilities) during the day.
