Journal

Well, another month has passed. Mom is not bouncing back as she hoped she would. She is very tired and spends more time sleeping than awake. Her appetite is next to nothing, with her last real "meal" being on Mother's Day at the beginning of May. She refuses IV fluids, feeling that it's too much of a hassle--- not enough bang for her buck. Hospice is now in the home and she has a nurse that visits 2x/week. The focus of her care has now shifted to comfort care rather than using any curative interventions.  Mom doesn't quite see the benefit to having them in the home, but she is also not using them to the fullest. She is clinging onto hope, her spirit to live is very strong. However, I am finding them helpful in assisting with getting equipment, communication with medical professionals and, at times, someone to talk to. Hospice is managing her symptoms well and keeping her comfortable during this stage of her illness. I know many people have been sending text messages, cards and leaving voicemails without any response. I have been reading these to her, but unfortunately she has a very limited ability to respond in any meaningful way. She does love to hear from people, so feel free to keep them coming. She is also still up for visitors, with a days notice.  Jasmine (her dog) is still keeping her company and is always up for a good walk or trip to the dog park as well. Please feel free to text me (406-539-7485) if you plan on stopping by and we can certainly arrange something. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to pray that mom will put her trust in God throughout this part of her journey.
