Journal entry by Michelle Gaiewski

Mom saw the doctor last week and praise god, she is cancer free! We have been working through figuring out all the things, as she is not physically ready to go back to work but has to financially.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the sick pool. While your donations didn’t go specifically to her, the sick pool has covered her to this point.

She has a follow up CT in April to determine if the cancer has returned or not. At that point we will have a better idea what the future holds. The longer it takes it to grow, the better the prognosis

Please continue to keep her in your prayers regarding her return to work, future scans, mental peace/clarity with all that has occurred the last couple of years.

To those who have ordered shirts. My sincerely apologies if you haven’t gotten it yet. Life has been a juggling act, but I could not be more thankful to still have my mom.

Growing up my mom looked up to Amelia Earhart (for those who don’t know, she used to be a pilot). A while back I got to see Brad Meltzer speak. He wrote a series of books for his children called “Ordinary people change the world”.  One of the ordinary females he picked for his his daughter was Amelia Earhart. He finds the extraordinary character of people that most don’t normally write about for children. At that point I knew my mom had become her own version of Amelia Earhart and the last 6 months I have seen that even more…. She was persistent and didn’t accept the limits the first doctor gave her. She didn’t give up  during treatment although I know she wanted to.

We’ve had our ups and downs along this life journey, but one thing I have always seen and looked up to is the fighter that she is. When I couldn’t fight for myself she fought for me. We may have had to force her through portions of this fight but she made it! I hope to be half as strong as she is when I grow up.

Thank you, God, for letting me keep my mom.
