Sue’s Story

Site created on November 15, 2014

I'm on home peritoneal dialysis and in need of a live kidney donor, blood type O.  Someone in good health (i.e. no uncontrolled hypertension, no diabetes, etc.) is able to donate.  My medical insurance covers the donor surgery and related testing.  If interested, please contact Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, CA at (858)554-4310. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
Today, Mike and I went to UCLA for a consultation to possibly get on their kidney waiting list.  Turns out they have about the same wait as the San Diego area, where I am already listed at Scripps (since August of 2011). The wait time in both areas is about 10 years for a person with blood type O, which is what I have.
The good news is that when a live donor steps forward, I have a better chance of getting a transplant from UCLA because they partner with the National Kidney Registry, which provides a larger pool of donor kidneys.  This is in case the donor who comes forward is not a match for me.  They can still donate and I would receive someone else's kidney.  This is called a paired exchange.  About 40 % of the transplants done at UCLA are this type.
Once a donor comes forward, finishes their testing, and is approved to donate, I will complete the workup at UCLA and move forward!
I'm asking for continued prayers for donors to step forward!
Thank you for your prayers and support!
Sue
