The "Ways to Give" button is confusing because it refers to donating $30 to support this page but it does not go to Stewart and Brenda.

Earlier in the year, Stewart began having shortness of breath.  It was about the time that Covid-19 became an issue.   He continued to work, hoping it was just allergies or something that would pass.  Recently he began to have pain and tightness in his chest which sent him to the doctor.  Tests were run and a mass and a network of nodules were found in his lungs.  Within a matter of 2 weeks he could hardly catch his breath.   He had a PET scan and a biopsy of the mass and nodules in the lungs.  That was exhausting for him and they had him on oxygen while being tested. That night we called an ambulance (early Wednesday morning 2 weeks ago), since they had oxygen on the truck they could give him.  He has been on oxygen 24/7 ever since.

The oncologist has said this is a rare form of cancer ( ACINAR Carcinoma)of the lungs, stage 4, but is hopefully treatable. We are still waiting on essential lab results—molecular markers—that will help them know more specifics in how to best treat him.

He was released from the hospital 2 days ago, July 13.  We went to the oncologist today, July 15, for a treatment plan.  Interestingly, the nurse practitioner told us that both she and the doctor woke up this morning with Stewart’s case on their minds.  They both felt a sense of urgency and called us in.  While they are waiting on the test results to come in, they are going to do a Chemotherapy treatment on Monday morning.  If he needs it, they will do another one in 21 days.

This has all come on so fast that our heads have been spinning.  So many people have come alongside us with prayers, offers to help, meals, etc. that we have felt so supported and loved and we want you to know how grateful we are.  Twenty- four friends stood outside Stew’s hospital room in the parking lot, holding balloons and letters that spelt out GET WELL SOON, STEW!  SO touching and it lifted his spirits as no one, including me was allowed to visit for the 6 days he was hospitalized.

We will use Caring Bridge to keep people informed as we journey along.  We ask for prayer for hope, peace, and healing.

I have been holding on to a Bible verse in Psalm 91:2 (Passion Translation):  “He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me, the only God for me and my great confidence.”  Stewart has been “camping out” in a passage in Ephesians 3:14-21 to carry him.  We will continue to believe the Lord is with us and in us and goes before us one step at a time.  Thank you for caring about our family.

Journal entry by Brenda Zane

Stew was released from the hospital and is in good spirits and extremely grateful for your prayers and comments. 😁

As he was being loaded into the ambulance in the wee hours Wednesday morning, he wasn’t sure he’d ever see us again.  He was told in 2020 that Covid would “take him out” and this one was Round 2!  God has His own timing…

Now….to get home to Clemson!😉

Magnify the Lord with us, and let’s exalt His name together !

❤️
