Steve’s Story

Site created on October 4, 2021

Steve was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer on September 16, 2021.  Ironically, this was also our Dad's first birthday in heaven.  There is a tumor behind his stomach that needs to be reduced before it can be operated on surgically.

Treatment began with his first infusion on October 1st.  The first round will last 12 weeks and will include a combination of oral medications as well as infusions.  At the end of the 12 weeks, scans will be taken to determine how well the treatment is working.

We are so grateful for our prayer warriors--family and friends who are holding Steve close in their thoughts and prayers.

Journal entry by Darolyn Gray

Steve is back for a five-hour day at Upstate for infusions today--Avastin and Xeloda.  His doctor is pleased with the numbers and even gave him a fist bump today. He's probably been overdoing some lifting so the doc has encouraged him to save his energy to fight the cancer.  His weight is holding at 152.

Our family is grateful for all of the prayers...long road ahead. We'll take a fist bump over a speed bump any day. Good to stay positive.
