Steve’s Story

Site created on February 17, 2018

As most of you know, Steve has many health issues, including diabetes, arthritis, joint replacements, small bowel bacteria overgrowth, chronic pancreatitis & kidney disease. Although we have had to weathered many storms through the years, we have never let his health problems dictate our life. It may have sidelined us for a little bit here & there but never took over not will we let it take over.

Hi Kids!

I hope this email finds you well!

I wanted to share that in Steve's honor, for the 3rd year in a row, I am walking in the PanCAN PurpleStride on April 27, 2024 at Como Park.  This organization helps to fund services for pancreatic patients & fund pancreatic cancer research to hopefully someday eradicate this horrible disease that took my husband's life. The 5 year life expectancy is up this year from 5% to 13%, which is still so very low.  I wanna believe that supporting this organization is helping to increase this rate.

Steve & I lost a very good friend this past year to this awful disease, as well.  Even more so now, I feel the importance of the work PanCAN is doing!  I will continue to walk for the Pancreatic Cancer Network, until I can't walk anymore.

This year, I have a good size team walking with me, including a couple of little kiddos, which makes me so happy!

Steve's been gone for 2 1/2 years now.  Some days, it feels like 2 1/2 decades.  My life has come together as a new normal for me.  I am still running by business, as well as helping out Steve's elderly cousin in Willmar.  I am involved at the new church Steve asked me to attend, once he was gone. He KNEW that it was the place that I was going to find peace & healing from his loss.  He was DEFINITELY dialed in with God the last several months of his life.  However, it DID take an entire church of people to help me heal from the loss of one really AWESOME guy.  I will always grieve my loss because great grief means great love. We DEFINITELY had that!

I am also working on another project that has to do with kidney donation.  I will share more, once I am able.

I really appreciate you all!  The last 6 years, since Steve went into kidney failure, were pretty tough but we always felt supported.

Love to you all!

Penny

PS.

The first picture is my 2023 team.  No, I have not gained weight. I had 3 layers of clothes on under that shirt because it was cold!!!

The t-shirt is my gift to the people who walk with me for the first time.

The last picture is the gift for my returning walkers for 2024.  Steve would laugh so hard that I had socks made with his face on them. 😂
