Steven’s Story

Site created on March 26, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. As many of you already know, Steven was diagnosed with a pineal brain tumor in April, 2017.  Following two surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy, Steven was feeling good, back at school and doing well.  Shortly after Steven's Make-A-Wish trip with his family to the Bahamas over the February school break, Steven wasn't feeling right.  An MRI of his brain was clear.  Because of some weakness in his left leg, doctors followed up with a spinal MRI that showed multiple tumors.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

for those only following here, this is my sister's latest update posted to Facebook

Most recent update on Steven:

We have been at Yale since last Monday to help get his pain under control and have his follow up MRI. We received the news no parents ever want to hear , that there are new tumors, the radiation was not successful, the cancer is aggressive, it’s terminal. This was told to us on June 13, the 6th anniversary of my mother’s passing. It was as if she was there, letting us know that she will protect him. Steven is aware and his courage , strength and honesty is actually helping us and others. People who are only just meeting him for the 1st time can feel his strength. We are in the process of setting up hospice. We will come home soon until we need to transition back to Yale. He will still need transfusions but our main goal is to keep him pain free. We plan on attending his 8th grade graduation from WMS this week and do some other things he wishes. We are still having some fun and making memories.
